Maurice Utrillo

Maurice Utrillo was born the day after Christmas under the name Maurice Valadon, at no. 8 rue du Poteau in Montmartre, in the 18th arrondissement of Paris: he is one of the rare famous painters from Montmartre who was born there. He is the son of the painter Suzanne Valadon and an unknown father. He is probably not the son of the Catalan painter Miquel Utrillo, one of Suzanne Valadon’s lovers, who nevertheless recognized him in 1891, in his 8th year, and thus gave him his nameNote 1.
